I found this post on eSoup called Top 10 Most Painfully Funny Company URLs. I suspect that a couple of these sites are fake — made just for the domain name. But, here they for your enjoyment.

  1. A site called ‘Who Represents‘ where you can find the name of the agent that represents a celebrity. Their domain name… wait for it… is
    www.whorepresents.com
  2. Experts Exchange, a knowledge base where programmers can exchange advice and views at
    www.expertsexchange.com
  3. Looking for a pen? Look no further than Pen Island at
    www.penisland.net
  4. Need a therapist? Try Therapist Finder at
    www.therapistfinder.com
  5. Then of course, there’s the Italian Power Generator company…
    www.powergenitalia.com
  6. And now, we have the Mole Station Native Nursery, based in New South Wales:
    www.molestationnursery.com
  7. If you’re looking for computer software, there’s always
    www.ipanywhere.com
  8. Welcome to the First Cumming Methodist Church. Their website is
    www.cummingfirst.com
  9. Then, of course, there’s these brainless art designers, and their whacky website:
    www.speedofart.com
  10. Want to holiday in Lake Tahoe? Try their brochure website at www.gotahoe.com

Business in 2008With the new year just around the corner, there’s no better time to begin thinking about your own freelancing and business plans for 2008. This is important because it’s rather easy to go year after year without any real thought towards your own career and future (other than making sure that you have work and that you get paid for that work). So here are three steps that help guide aspirations and plans for the coming year.

1) Lose What Is Unnecessary or Beyond Your Expertise
2) Learn More About Your Strengths and Build on Them
3) List Out Your Goals and Your Plans to Reach Those Goals

LCC Student EMail

Looks like the school is moving student email over to Google. I looked around the LCC website and couldn’t find any more info beyond what was sent to me in an email. Looks like you’ll get ad free gmail and 2gb of storage.

On December 20, 2007 all new and returning Lansing Community College students* who have been issued a TUID (Technology User ID) will be automatically issued LCC Google email accounts. The Google email account will replace all existing LCC-issued email accounts as well as any other email account that students have used with any LCC system. The Google email account will be the official email address that the college will use to communicate with students. While students can choose to forward their LCC Google email to another email account, all college communication will be sent to the LCC Google email account. Students will need to use this account to access College information, such as financial aid, refund checks, dropped courses, etc.

Call the LCC Help Desk at 483-5221 or email lcc1@lcc.edu.

Why You Should Validate Your HTML

Samuel has a nice post on his blog about why you should validate your HTML. It’s a short post so it won’t take much time. Do yourself a favor and read it if you’re a web major.

Besides, I reasoned, why spend all the extra time validating your site when 99% of your visitors won’t even know? However, as I began to honestly consider the benefits of validated code, I realized that I was wrong to simply dismiss it. Furthermore, I also decided that I should convert this site to validated code (which I am still in the midst of doing right now). So why am I spending the extra hours validating my code?
