Steven D. over at Smashing Magazine has a nice post about web typography and sin. Well, that’s not very accurate. Web typography sin is closer. Here’s the list but jump to the post and read it in (a little) more detail.
While many designers have been quick to embrace web standards, it’s surprising how often the basic standards of typography are neglected. Here are ten deadly sins to avoid in your web typography:
1. Using hyphens instead of an em dash
2. Using periods instead of ellipses.
3. Using dumb quotes
4. Double-spacing between sentences.
5. Improvising a copyright symbol.
6. Using too much emphasis.
7. Underlining your hypertext links.
8. Faking families in Photoshop.
9. Use accent characters.
10. Use CSS for capitalization effects.
