Jason Fried:

Dismissing an idea is so easy because it doesn’t involve any work. You can scoff at it. You can ignore it. You can puff some smoke at it. That’s easy. The hard thing to do is protect it, think about it, let it marinate, explore it, riff on it, and try it. The right idea could start out life as the wrong idea.

Dont fear the internet

Jessica Hische & Russ Maschmeye have a nice little spot on the internet called appropriately enough, “Don’t Fear the Internet.” So far they’ve put together six video tutorials starting with what the web actually is up to describing how to build a web site. They haven’t come out with a new video in many months though so I hope the project hasn’t died.

I’ve watched a couple of the videos so far and thought I’d pass this resource along to you guys. Be sure to swing by and watch ‘em.

Sagina bridge closed

Road detours will begin March 5 as a project to reconstruct the Saginaw Street bridge over the Grand River gets under way.

To accommodate the project, Saginaw Street will be closed over the bridge. Oakland Avenue will become a two-way street between Grand Avenue and Center Street. The posted detour route will take motorists north on Grand, east on Oakland and south on Center before reconnecting to Saginaw.

Updates:

LCC Trafic Advisories has more details including the impact it will have on LCC Parking.

Michigan Department of Transportation has some photos of the bridge and all I can say is wow. That bridge is in bad shape.

Layers

Firstly, sorry for the crappy screen cap. With that out of the way, dig this: Layer Styles allows you to style a DIV (or other box) just like you’d style a layer in Photoshop.

Enjoy.

Should i work for free

Chris Dickman over at Creative Bits has a nice post. I’ll just copy and paste it because I’m feeling lazy today:

It’s a question as old as work itself. Jessica Hische’s chart should help you figure out the answer when you find yourself staring off into space the next time the temptation arises. You can even order a letterpress version to ensure that you don’t fall asleep and say yes during a moment of weakness. Unless of course it’s your mom on the phone.

Arctext

Pedro Botelho over at codrops has a neat post on making text follow a curve. Easy enough to do in Photoshop and Illustrator but not so easy in HTML. Pedro writes, “While CSS3 allows us to rotate letters, it is quite complicated to arrange each letter along a curved path. Arctext.js is a jQuery plugin that let’s you do exactly that.”

How cool is this?

15 Fresh and Powerful CSS3 Tutorials

Nikola Lazarevic has a very nice post over at webExpedition18 with some killer CSS3 tutorials. How to create icons in CSS3, rounding table borders, kick ass hover effects, and a couple of tutorials on CSS3 animation to boot.

I think my personal favorite’s are Animated Buttons with CSS3 and CSS3 Animation Menus. Those buttons just kill me.
